from two and a bit acres to sixteen and a bit…

oh my god….7 times bigger than before…and it looks a hundred….scared. excited….so much possibility it makes you want to run….but how can you be afraid of what youve asked for and been lucky enough to get?

to throw all my time and energy and money into the one occupation where the national experiment shows that it doesnt pay? collect all the brains, the brightheaded smallholders, rightminded farmers, and creative thinkers i know and ask them to help me take this tired old land and take it back to where it should be? or just get a few chickens, a couple of sheep and let the grass grow?

what to do. what to do. the answer? drink tea and wait for it come…. luckily weve a few months until spring

the inspiration will come i know

and the raw ingredients are there for a lot of fun: a pretty big river, another beautiful tributary, kingfishers – which i have seen, and otters – i havent, sluices and bridges, abundant – if tatty – hedges which will add to the larder in summer, and a few hundred yards of trout fishing…my lazy ass in a chair, friends fishing rods bending into the water, beer in the net, fire waiting for the fish
